Wintersday 2008 Opens Up the Eye of the North
(Lt. Thackeray)On behalf of the Ebon Vanguard, I am pleased to extend our invitation to this year’s Wintersday celebration. Most of the Vanguard is off-duty to take part in the festivities, so please join us in the Eye of the North as we relax and make merry. It has fallen to me to make sure everyone has a proper good time, a duty that I gladly accept. I just hope no one minds if I have a little fun for myself along the way.
–Lt. Thackeray

[[Wintersday]] is coming, and for the first time ever the [[Eye of the North]] will be taking part in the festivities. The Ebon Vanguard’s tower stronghold will be decorated for the season (along with [[Lion’s Arch]], [[Kamadan]], [[Droknar’s Forge]], and [[Ascalon City]]), but visitors can enjoy a lot more than just the spectacular scenery. This year’s festival includes some of the most popular events, quests, and goodies from past Wintersday celebrations, plus a whole host of new things to discover, including brand new NPCs, quests, rewards, and a special holiday PvP tournament.
Most of the [[Ebon Vanguard’s]] officer class is off-duty and out celebrating, so the Eye of the North itself has been left in the capable hands of Lt. Thackeray. A driven, disciplined soldier, Thackeray is quickly making a name for himself as one of the Ebon Vanguard’s elite reconnaissance rangers. He’s also determined to spread holiday cheer throughout the Eye of the North, and provide a bit of comfort and respite to his fellow soldiers…especially [[Gwen]], who is feeling a bit melancholy this Wintersday.
Thackeray will provide new quests, items, and collector NPCs that are specific to the Eye of the North, so you’ll need access to this area to participate—don’t miss out on the new [[tonics]] and [[summoning stones]]! Of course, there will also be new things to discover all over the world, and everyone who participates in the grand finale inside Lion’s Arch and Kamadan will get some spiffy new hats. The Wintersday [[candysmiths]] make their triumphant return, as will the [[polar bear mini-pet]]. In Lion’s Arch, Kamadan, Droknar’s Forge, and Ascalon City, you can try your hand at distributing gifts to the children, or if you’re feeling [[grentch-y]], you can try to destroy the gifts before the children get them. There will be a lot more action in the [[Snowball Arena]] before the traditional finale battle between the followers of [[Dwayna]] and the followers of [[Grenth]] to determine which god will control the weather during the coming months. Also, for the first time ever, players can experience 8v8 ATS-style Snowball Tournaments!
Wintersday events begin at noon Pacific Time (-8 GMT) on Friday, December 19, 2008 and run until noon on January 5, 2009. The Wintersday grand finale will take place on Wintersday itself in Lion’s Arch and Kamadan, beginning at 12:01 AM Pacific on Thursday, January 1, 2009, and repeating every three hours until 12:01 AM on Friday, January 2, 2009.
Mark your calendars and make plans to join Lt. Thackeray for this year’s Wintersday extravaganza!

Wintersday 2008 Holiday Rewards
In addition to the seasonally appropriate headwear you can receive from Dwayna or Grenth at the end of the grand finale, there are plenty of other gifts and items you might see during the Wintersday festival:
![]() |
[[Frosty Summoning Stone]] Nobody should be alone on Wintersday, so use this item to summon a snowman ally! |
![]() |
[[Mischievous Summoning Stone]] Summon a grentch ally to help you spread some holiday cheer, Grenth-style. |
![]() |
[[Frosty Tonic]] Don’t just build a snowman, be a snowman! |
![]() |
[[Mischievous Tonic]] Get in touch with your inner grentch by taking on the outer appearance of one. |
![]() |
[[Wintersday Gift]] What surprise will you find inside? Unwrap it to find out. |
![]() |
[[Snowman Summoner]] Need an instant snowman? This gift is for you. |
![]() |
[[Eggnog]] The holiday season’s staple drink. |
![]() |
[[Spiked Eggnog]] A more potent glass of ‘nog for the hale and hearty. Please imbibe responsibly—don’t drink and quest. |
![]() |
[[Wintergreen Candy Cane]] The return of the adventurer’s favorite candy treat. |
![]() |
[[Rainbow Candy Cane]] A different flavor of candy cane that makes long days of questing more enjoyable. |
![]() |
[[Yuletide Tonic]] Drink this tonic to become one of Dwayna’s little helpers. |
![]() |
[[Glob of Frozen Ectoplasm]] Low on Yuletide Tonic? Try some of this! |
![]() |
[[Fruitcake]] Another holiday staple that is sure to put a spring in your step. |
![]() |
[[Candy Cane Shards]] Collect these colorful fragments by questing and competing. Hoard them up for the grand finale, have a candysmith forge them into a weapon, or trade them to see what you can get in exchange. |
Special Reward!
In the tradition of the season, you will also receive special holiday-themed headgear for attending the Wintersday finale; and if you complete all four of the Eye of the North quests, you’ll find a special surprise waiting in [[Gwen’s garden]]!
We look forward to seeing you this Wintersday. Come join the fun, and don’t get left out in the cold!
Wintersday 2008 Holiday Events
There’s a lot going on in the Ebon Vanguard’s tower stronghold during this year’s Wintersday celebration, but there will also be plenty to do in Lion’s Arch and Kamadan. Here’s more of what you can expect:
* Speak to Lt. Thackeray in the Eye of the North to find out how you can help the Ebon Vanguard enjoy Wintersday through a new chain of quests!
* Brand new 8v8 ATS-style Snowball Tournaments!
* Two well-known Wintersday quests are back to let you side with Grenth and his grentches or Dwayna and her snowmen before their final showdown. Unsure which deity to support? Try both quests to pick your favorite!
* Quest chains from past years that involve certain beloved (and rare) holiday-themed animals.
* Two repeatable quests set in the (previously) [[Secret Lair of the Snowmen]]. It’s your choice: help save the snowmen, and all of Wintersday, or lead a group of grentches on a final “bah, humbug” of the season.
* Venture into the [[Underworld]] for a series of repeatable snowball fights against the forces of Grenth or the forces of Dwayna. Take control of piles of presents to win victory for your side in this frosty fray.
* More snowball mayhem in the form of PvP snowball fights! Random forces unite within an arena to fight for either Grenth or Dwayna. The first team to gather five presents for its patron deity wins the day.
* Embrace the old adage “it is better to give than to receive” at the city event game in Lion’s Arch, Droknar’s Forge, Kamadan, and Ascalon City. Deliver presents to the children before the grentches destroy Wintersday. You never know, the little urchins might reward you with something special for your generosity.

Our members now receive an unprecedented amount of abuse in PRE SEARING ONLY!
We help new players by giving free weapons away, replying to new player questions and giving free runs for armour upgrades.
Most of this abuse is from racists who hate the British.
This site was set up also to give free help and advice. We have posted articles on how to deal with stalkers reporting hackers and have always had the link to THE USER AGREEMENT
Meanwhile we continue to ignore 90% and report the most serious repeat offenders.
I think it is about time for ArenaNET to take some responsibility over Racialist issues and other serious breeches in THEIR user agreement. It is after all a legal obligation.
We have supported this game from it’s development stage and will continue despite the victimisation we receive (mainly by offenders hackers exploiters and their friends)
Supporting exploiters and hackers is like receiving stolen property they do not take the risk but actively provide a market for these items (e.g a shield handle was the last illicit item i saw being sold and this is of NO use anyway).
The average I.Q of these people must be seriously deficient, one actually accused me of winding people up so they break the user agreement and I can therefore report them.
You are the only ones responsible for your actions, blaming others for this is so pathetic.
We receive no wages help or other incentives unlike the “Official” site where jealousy rules their forums too. No one here is allowed to slander or “flame” others.

O.K so we had unscrupulous people using guest keys to run bots. I suggested “No guest keys” Now the bot runners are out in force buying second hand copies which can be used immediately. While guest keys were available Guild Wars in their infinite wisdom put a stop to trading during the first 24 hours, this is still in place. Not only that but you can not drop items outside (They could trade like this too?) ,also still in place. So you are an honest player who took the trouble of buying a spare account despite the inherent problems of on-line registration, e-mail addresses and upgrades (keys) purchased honestly in game via the (expensive) on-line playNC store.
Right time to start first things first (that makes sense) you collect 3 red iris for Gwen and have to wait another day before you can drop these to complete THE FIRST QUEST.
No you can not levitate the red iris to Gwen. (See Gwens quest guide) So what can you do talk to Gwen and spoil the first quest? Wait outside for 24 hours? wish you had never given them your money (non refundable).
Buy extra slots this costs more for 4 slots than the game! CRAZY my account has reached it’s limit of 24 characters anyway. That’s too bad you gave them too much money huh?
I always report account buyers for botting and post here a warning to any one so tempted to sell a spare account.
Meanwhile your other account is “still waiting” to use you as a mule? Your guild members are just hanging around. Are you bored yet? Try clicking the key words and listening to some music instead! You are being punished for another’s crime.
I guess you may as well wait for the searing

I DO NOT HAVE A plaync E MAIL ADDRESS !!!!!!!!!!!
EVEN THE TRANSACTION HISTORY IS EMPTY THIS IS THE BIGGEST SCAM YET!
They then gave me double trial keys for “other games” is this extracting my urine or WHAT?
Well after FOUR HOUR OF SHOUTING AT THEM I NOW HAVE WHAT I PAID FOR ON AN INVALID E-MAIL ADDRESS!
Oh a customer survey but no apology!

The recent computer generated named account buyers are breaching the user agreement and SO ARE YOU IF YOU SELL.
If you sell to these kiss guild wars goodbye your details (of the original account holder) will get you bannned if the account is used for botting.
Yes this is how they collect random accounts to bot with. I would rather /report them even if my reports are on an “Ignore list”. So here is a screen shot!
These people/bots allways use the same format (see chat screen) to buy accounts on open chat!

Pwnamon.co.uk writes "Everyone knows the NES. It’s the system that saved the Video Game Industry when Atari screwed things up. It’s the system that began the modern gaming era. It’s the Grandfather of all gaming consoles. You know, blah blah blah. Anyway, it’s no secret that it had some great games. It’s going to be very difficult, but I’m going to pick the 10 NES games that were the best ones on the system."

So what do you need to do to score a copy of Call of Duty: World at War from Activision two months early? Simple. Just dominate a sporting event on the global stage, bringing home a record-breaking 8 gold medals from the Olympics, and that baby is yours. This is a video from CBS’s The Early Show, which shows U.S. Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps, otherwise known as The Seahorse, receiving a copy of the game for the PlayStation 3 at the end of the segment. Perhaps by the time the game comes out in November he’ll actually have time to play it.

Update - Thursday May 22
Restoration of Skill Effectiveness in PvE
With this update we introduce a new system to split certain skills into separate PvE and PvP versions. With this system we can update skills for one game type without affecting the other.
Skills that differ in PvP will have (PvP) listed at the end of their names when viewed in PvP outposts and matches. These skills will automatically be adjusted within PvP outposts and matches. Players can equip their skills as normal, and the game will use the PvP version where appropriate. For more information, see the Developer Update.
In this update, we are restoring a number of skills so that they work similar to how they used to before various PvP-related game balances. Each of the following skill restored in this way now also has a PvP version:
Assassin
* Shadow Form: increased duration to 5..30 seconds.
Elementalist
* Ether Renewal: increased duration to 5..20 seconds; increased Energy gain to 1..4.
Mesmer
* Energy Drain: decreased recharge to 20 seconds.
* Energy Tap: decreased recharge to 20 seconds; decreased casting time to 2 seconds.
Monk
* Light of Deliverance: decreased recharge to 6 seconds.
Necromancer
* Discord: decreased casting time to 1 second.
Paragon
* “Incoming!”: increased duration to 1..5 seconds.
* Defensive Anthem: decreased activation time to 1 second.
Ranger
* Penetrating Attack: increased damage to 5..25.
* Sundering Attack: increased damage to 5..25.
Ritualist
* Ritual Lord: increased Spirit recharge reduction to 15..75%.
Warrior
* “Watch Yourself!”: increased number of attacks before “Watch Yourself!” ends to 10.
Restoration of April Balance Changes (PvP)
We are also reintroducing the PvP balance changes that we tested from April 17 - May 1, along with a few other tweaks to skills. These balance changes will apply only to PvP.
Assassin
* Assassin’s Remedy (PvP): increased Energy cost to 10.
* Shadow Form (PvP): decreased duration to 5..15 seconds.
Dervish
* Eremite’s Attack (PvP): increased activation time to 1 second.

* “Never Surrender!” (PvP): decreased duration to 10 seconds.
* Ballad of Restoration (PvP): increased recharge time to 30 seconds.
* Harrier’s Toss (PvP): increased activation time to 1 second.
* Song of Restoration (PvP): increased recharge time to 30 seconds.
Ritualist
* Ancestors’ Rage (PvP): increased casting time to 1 second.
* Death Pact Signet (PvP): increased casting time to 4 seconds.
* Flesh of My Flesh (PvP): increased recharge to 10 seconds.
* Splinter Weapon (PvP): increased recharge to 8 seconds.
Restoration of April Balance Changes (PvE and PvP)
These skills were part of the the April Balance change and needed to be restored for PvP balance but didn’t warrant splitting the skills into separate PvE and PvP versions. Some are skill improvements we wanted to apply to both PvE and PvP; others are power reductions we felt would have minimal impact on PvE balance. The one exception is Steelfang Slash, which was not a part of the April Balance update. It was added to this list to deal with particular multi-weapon skill combinations that allowed a player to repeatedly chain knockdowns on an opponent.
Elementalist
* Glyph of Concentration: decreased number of spells that cannot be interrupted to 1.
* Shockwave: increased casting time to 1 second.
Mesmer
* Chaos Storm: decreased Energy cost to 5.
* Energy Burn: increased Energy lost to 1..10; decreased damage done per Energy to 9.
* Energy Surge: increased Energy lost to 1..10; decreased damage done per Energy to 9.
* Fevered Dreams: decreased recharge to 8.
* Fragility: decreased Energy cost to 5.
* Hex Breaker: this skill now counts as a Stance.
Warrior
* Disarm: decreased skill disable time to 0..3 seconds; increased recharge to 20 seconds.
* Steelfang Slash: increased recharge to 1 second.
Bug Fixes
* Fixed a bug in Alliance Battles that awarded points to the opposing team when members died from Health sacrifice or vampiric weapons before the match started.
* Fixed a bug that prevented Hero Assassins from using dagger skills for a brief time following a dual attack.
* Fixed a bug that incorrectly triggered a full inventory warning for some players when purchasing Zaishen Keys from Tolkano.
* Heroes will now use the Necromancer skill Blood is Power more often.
* Fixed a bug that allowed some players to exceed party size limits with Heroes.
* Fixed a bug that caused the Necromancer skill Grenth’s Balance to occasionally deal an incorrect amount of damage/healing.
* Fixed a bug that caused certain henchmen in the Central Transfer Chamber to not show up sometimes.
* Fixed text bugs affecting one quest, one NPC, and the Zaishen Title Track.
* Fixed minor clipping issues occurring on Ranger masks when they’re worn by some Factions or Nightfall characters.
Miscellaneous
* A Ranger’s fur-lined mask can now be crafted by armorer Seifred in Droknar’s Forge, or purchased using Tournament Reward Points from Tolkano in the Great Temple of Balthazar.
Update - Tuesday May 13
Bug Fixes
* Fixed an exploit.
Update - Thursday May 8
Bug Fixes
* Fixed a crash bug.
Miscellaneous
* Corrected an issue with the Guild Wars updater. When you restart Guild Wars, the gray splash screen may appear an extra time. This is normal and will not recur after the update is applied.
Update - Thursday May 8
Updated Zaishen Rewards
* Added the new Zaishen title track, which can be displayed in the Hall of Monuments. Each rank in the Zaishen title track unlocks a new emote. To display the emote, enter /Zaishen or /Zrank once rank 1 or higher has been unlocked on the account.
* Added new monthly tonics to the Zaishen Chest. These new tonics will alternate each month.
For more information on the additions to the Zaishen rewards, please visit: http://www.guildwars.com/competitive/tournament2008/zaishenrewards/
